Services
Surgery is a common and very important service in veterinary practice. Over time Dr. Day has been fortunate to have developed a great degree of experience and expertise in the field of veterinary surgery, including the ability to provide surgical care other veterinarians might be likely to refer to a surgical specialist.
It is important to note that Dr Day is not a boarded surgical specialist; rather, he has years of practical experience and training that makes him comfortable in providing care to his patients where other vets might be less inclined to do so.
If you need surgical care for your pet, please don’t hesitate to contact us. If we can help, we will do our best for you, and if we do not feel your pet’s best interests are served here, we also would be happy to recommend someone who can help.

Chiropractic is a well-established health care system that has been practiced for over a century. As more and more people discover this drug-free method of healing and disease prevention, more pet owners are requesting this form of healing be practiced upon their pets. In truth, chiropractic has been practiced on animals for decades, but only recently have formal training courses and an association been established to promote this art on animal patients. Nevertheless, many physicians and veterinarians still reject chiropractic as a valid form of treatment. Those who have had first hand experience with the benefits of manipulation are those best able to testify as to the wonderful benefits Chiropractic offers.
There are over 100 joints in the dog or cat spine. When any one of these joints fails to move properly the motion of the animal is adversely affected and symptoms of pain or illness can be manifest. Chiropractic deals with the removal of "subluxations" from the spine and other joints in the body. A subluxation as defined herein is a joint in which alignment, movement and/or physiologic function has been altered, although the joint will still have relatively normal integrity. "Fixation" is another term commonly used. A fixated joint is one that is immobilized in any position. Chiropractic seeks to remove these subluxations or fixations through specific, controlled manipulation of the spine or other joints.
There are many differing techniques used to adjust the spine, both in humans and in animals. The technique used is not as important as the results received. It seems that most techniques in their own way are effective in accomplishing the basic goal of removing subluxations. Once subluxations or fixations are removed, motion, flexibility, function and health are restored!
Dr. Day has been trained in Diversified, Gonstead, Activator and Logan Basic techniques and has been practicing manipulation on dogs and cats since 1995. He has treated hundreds of pets with these methods. He has Certification by the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association and is a member thereof. He also continues taking other training courses in chiropractic. Dr. Day has used manipulation to treat all degrees of back and neck pain, "disc disease", loss of function problems, lameness, hindleg weakness and paralysis, incontinence, unexplained pain and various other problems. While Chiropractic cannot offer a cure for every case, many cases not well treated by conventional therapies can be helped with this method. Chiropractic can also be used along with other methods of treatment and in some cases, manipulation has proven very effective where other modes of treatment have failed. Manipulation is safe, drug free, side effect free and becoming the choice of more pet owners these days.
A pet being examined by the Animal Chiropractor first will receive a complete and special exam of the spine (and other joints if needed) after a complete history has been obtained. Usually sedation is administered and X-rays taken to determine the areas of greatest concern and to make sure other conditions are not overlooked! It is always important to be certain other medical problems are not overlooked. Manipulation is performed, usually weekly for 3-4 visits, then every 2 weeks, and then, if the desired results have been good, about every 2-4 months to prevent the problem from recurring. Most dogs and cats require 4-7 treatments to obtain desired results. Just as in people, medications can also be used to relieve pain and muscle spasm while healing is occurring if an owner wishes. We look forward to helping your pet with these exciting techniques!
The use of laser therapy in medical practice is not new but is rapidly finding more uses to aid the healing of animal patients. Cold lasers, unlike “hot” lasers, do not cut nor burn. Rather, they distribute light of a specific wavelength deep into tissues; much deeper than ordinary visible light would ever travel. When this light energy reaches the target tissues, several beneficial effects begin to occur. These include:
Anti-Inflammation: Laser therapy opens blood vessels and lymphatic flow decreasing swelling and inflammation.
Anti-Pain: Laser therapy blocks pain impulses in nerve endings and helps the body produce pain killing chemicals.
Accelerated Tissue Repair: Light that penetrates deep into the tissues adds energy to cells and this accelerates cell growth and tissue repair.
Improved Vascular Activity: Laser light stimulates the growth of new capillaries that also aid healing.
Increased Metabolic Activity: Laser light stimulates metabolic functions within cells.
Reduced Scar Formation: Laser light reduces scar formation in cuts, bruises, burns and surgical wounds.
Improved Nerve Function: Laser light speeds up nerve a function which in turn allows cells and tissues to function and repair more effectively.
Immunoregulation: Laser light stimulates many aspects of the immune system to aid healing.
Improved Wound Healing: All types of wound heal faster as collagen producing cells grow faster.

COLD LASER THERAPY is a very safe, side-effect free, pain free and inexpensive way to help your pet heal! Ask us today for more information.
The word cancer strikes fear into the minds of most all people. Nevertheless, as our pets age, we encounter more and more situations where tumors can be present. It is important to note that a vast majority of tumors and cancer are treated and cured surgically, something our doctors are expert at.
Unfortunately, some tumors, such as lymphoma, require chemotherapy. There are several excellent specialists in town, but unfortunately, specialty cancer care can run 5000-8000 dollars, something not everyone can afford for their pet.
While we ARE NOT SPECIALISTS, we have the interest and experience to provide common chemotherapy protocols for pets and in many cases can do so for 50% or less than what a specialist might charge. Please do not hesitate to consult with us in any situation where chemotherapy or cancer surgery may be needed.
HIGH FREQUENCY / LOW TEMPERATURE
We have been using radiowave technology in our surgical suite for over ten years now. This gives us the ability to offer your pet shorter anesthesia and post-surgical healing times. In fact, some procedures may require only a local anesthetic. Many clinics are now advertising laser surgery as the latest technique, in fact, many human surgeons are abandoning laser surgery in favor of this technology. Another plus, we don't charge extra to compensate for the high cost of owning a laser!
WHY IS RADIOWAVE FREQUENCY SAFER?
No contact is needed between the neutral plate and the patient, eliminating the possibility of burns or shocks.
There is no risk of accidentally burning other areas of tissue through reflection or penetration of a light beam (as with laser).
Radiowave surgery provides a tactile, but pressureless, incision which allows the doctor to sense what he is cutting.
Radiofrequency energy is low-temperature, minimizing the occurrence of tissue necrosis and burning. (less heat than with laser)
RADIOWAVE SURGERY OFFERS DISTINCT BENEFITS TO YOUR PET:
DECREASED POST-OPERATIVE PAIN
Radiowave surgery seals nerve endings as it cuts
DECREASED POST-SURGICAL EDEMA (SWELLING)
Low-temperature = less tissue destruction
LESS BLOOD LOSS
The radiowaves close off blood vessels and nerve endings as they cut
REDUCED RISK OF INFECTION
Radiowaves vaporize bacteria, preventing infectious agents from being seeded along the length of the incision
QUICKER RECOVERY
With less tissue destruction, healing is hastened and your pet will recover more quickly
SAFER THAN LASER SURGERY
There are no safety hazards involved with radiowave technology
NO BURNING OR CHARRING OF THE TISSUE
Radiowave surgery does not burn the tissue, unlike laser or high-temperature electrosurgery
HOW DOES RADIOWAVE SURGERY WORK?
A RF micro fiber tip becomes energized by the radiowaves but does not become hot. The ultra high frequency radiowaves provide specific and delicate tissue interaction. This results in a focused cutting and coagulating effect, which disintegrates and volatilizes single cells minimizing the amount of tissue destruction. Healing is rapid and painless with formation of a supple tissue identical to surrounding normal tissue.
No doctor nor web site can cover every possible request or situation, and from time to time special needs arise not typical in our day to day practice. Most commonly, people request that procedures usually performed on a drop off, pick up later basis, be performed while-you-wait. The other and more uncommon request that we sometimes field is that of a pet owner wanting to be present for a surgical procedure.
Under the right circumstances we can and will provide these accommodations. However, because of the scheduling, staff and legal issues involved in such requests, all such procedures must be approved in advance with Dr. Day, usually during a consultation, and the cost of these services often are 1.5-2.5 more times than our usual fee.
